In a shameless attempt to catch up to my niece's superior photography skills, I purchased (yesterday) a new lens for my camera: a Canon 50mm f/1.8. I love this little beauty so far, though I haven't had much of a chance to use it yet, since I first had to recharge my camera's battery and I've been busy ever since. But here's a preview of what it'll do:
I love the way the background fades away, and we are encouraged to focus on one thing, like the way my imitation chintz teacup is obviously not level on the bottom.

This is a lovely photograph! I'm very impressed!! :) I want a new camera for my birthday!
that lighting is amazing! i love the teapot bokeh. you are going to become addicted to that lens, and bokeh!
its supposed to be a good portrait lens, but i'm finding out not so much for moving toddlers... i need to check my AF settings on my camera. with non-human subjects though, it's wonderful!
i hope you put this on flickr so i can fave it!
It does wonders indeed. There's nothing like a good lens to make good pics, is there...
oh and "superior" - not too sure about that!! lol
also, i forgot to tell you, when you wrote GAWd the other day, i LOL'd when i realized what you meant!
LOVE this photo. I fancy the tea cup (I inherited about 50 from my grandma, and my mom and I don't know what to do with them!). I'd love a new lens for my old school camera. I got and point and shoot digital from Santa last year, and I have to say...I've become attached to it and have "abandoned" my "real" camera. So...your photo was inspiring in many ways!. :-)
Lovely picture. (came in via Willow's).
Greetings from Rome.
